The whole process was very simple and straight forward. My mechanic dealership says that you can t reprogram re code or swap a used bmw ecu between cars. My old msd80 was fried and instead of purchasing a new dme advanced programming and coding was able to code in a used msd81 dme and help me get my bmw 335i to run again for a 1 8th of the cost.
